Candle tunneling happens when a candle burns straight down the center, leaving unmelted wax stuck to the sides—wasting wax and shortening burn time. It usually means the wick is too small for the candle’s diameter and/or wax type, so prevention comes down to proper wick sizing through testing, and making sure the first burn is long enough (about 2–4 hours) to create a full melt pool edge-to-edge (and teaching customers to do the same).
